Dave Dombrowski continues his streak of avoiding an arbitration hearing on every player that has filed during the course of his time as the Tigers’ GM.

Five players have filed this off-season, and you can cross three names off that list. Young starter, Rick Porcello, lefty reliever, Phil Coke and utility man, Don Kellyhave agreed to deals with the team.

Porcello made $1.54MM in 2011 and has upgraded his pay to $3.1MM this season. Coke went from just $440K to $1.1MM, with the opportunity to add another $50K on incentives. Kelly agreed to a $900K contract.

So Long, Zoom: Hard-Throwing Zumaya Signs with Minnesota Twins

The injury-riddled Joel Zumaya era in Detroit has officially come to an end, after five seasons.

Zumaya has reportedly signed an incentive based contract with the Tigers’ divisional foe, the Minnesota Twins. The deal lasts just one season, but could pay the right-hander anywhere from $800K to $1.7MM based on appearances.

Apparently, three or more teams had standing offers with Zoom, who chose the Twins because of their guaranteed money over a minor league contract.

“We had multiple teams talking,” Zumaya said, “That’s why I waited this long.”

Cespedes Decision Could Come Next Week

The anticipation of Cuban outfield Yoenis Cespedes signing a Major League Baseball contract might soon come to an end.

Cespedes, 26, is reportedly about a week from gaining residency in the Dominican Republic according to Sporting News.

The Detroit Tigers are one of a handful of teams who have been mentioned as suitors for Cespedes.

How much is too much to offer?

The Tigers are one of four teams extremely interested in the Cubs right-hander, but is the price too steep?

These rumors just haven’t gone away, and the Tigers have been linked to having interest in the Chicago Cubs‘ starting pitcher for a few weeks now.

According to David Kaplan of CSN Chicago, Detroit and Chicago are “down the road in discussions” to swap Matt Garza for a package of prospects. The Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays have also expressed interest in the 28-year-old.

Detroit seems capable to meet the Cubs’ high asking price of multiple top-prospects, but it is not certain if Dave Dombrowski is willing to deal Jacob Turner

Still Left Out: Jack Morris, Alan Trammell Miss Hall of Fame Once Again

As Detroit Tigers fans we’ve become accustomed to the annual disappointment this time of year.

For the 13th straight year Jack Morris, the former Tigers ace right hander, has come up short for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Morris received 66.7% of the vote, his best showing to date, and has two years remaining on the ballot to reach the required 75% of all ballots cast.

Alan Trammell, as usual, needs a lot of help.

The 1984 World Series MVP, Trammell has four years left on the BBWAA ballot to improve from this years total of 36.8%(last year he had 24.3%).

Miguel Cabrera Pleads No Contest, Gets One-Year of Probation and Fines

Miguel Cabrera accepted a deal on Thursday that will spare him of any possible jail time, but won’t allow him to walk away too easily.

Cabrera’s decision to plead no contest, gets him one-year of probation, $1,400 in fines and a non-negotiable trip to DUI school and a victim-impact panel. The charges of resisting an officer and having an open container in the vehicle were dropped.

“Miguel Cabrera is determined not to allow this to go on any further,” said Miggy’s attorney, Michael Kessler. “He wants this behind him before the start of spring training. For that reason, and for that reason only, Miguel Cabrera asked me to settle this case today.”

Cabrera could be released from probation within six months if all goes well.
